Awwww Hail No!

So not having posted in awhile, I realized that I've neglected to point out several important changes that have happened to the house in the last year or so.

Remember me telling you about the nasty hail storm we had back in the spring of 2006? No? Really? Well, you can read about it here.

Anyway, so we had some damage to our siding and we lost a few storm windows.

Not awful, but it certainly didn't make our house look any prettier.

When we started talking to our insurance company, we found out that they don't make our aluminum siding anymore.

Darn. Shucks. What ever will we do?

Guess that means we'll have to make other plans. Like tearing it all off for good. Oh yeah, that's right. You read that correctly. Things just got ugly. Real ugly.

The Benefits of Staying in Touch

When we moved into our garage-less house back in 2003, we were told that at some point in time there indeed was a garage in the backyard but it sadly didn't survive.

Later, when a friend gave us some old photos of the house, there was one photo were were especially excited about because we could see the top portion of our original garage. (See photo below on right)

The problem was, that's all we could see of it. That helped us understand the orientation of the garage but not much else.

Then a few weeks ago, I saw one of the daughters of the previous owner at the Irvington Farmer's Market and happened to ask her if she had any old family photos with the garage in the background. A few days later, these two photos showed up on our doorstep.

Interesting eh? Too my knowledge, the garage wasn't designed by Stickley but it is a bit unique and does have some cool architectural details.

Now, somewhere down the road, we'll build a garage. Will we rebuild this one? Who knows. But at least we now have that option thanks to the generosity of the previous owners.
